ROLL UP, ROLL UP - RAT RACE, RAT RACE

On Saturday 29th November it’s BUY NOTHING DAY and the 2009 Norwich City Centre Rat Race is set to start. The race will highlight the moral, environmental and personal consequences of consumerism, and also challenge the city centre’s most unethical corporations. It would be great if as many people came along as possible!

Rat masks and ‘go faster’, ‘work harder’ signs will be provided and it would be good if people could dress smart (ish). We don’t know how long it will last but probably a few hours of racing, with lots of rest breaks.

Here’s some reasons to be cheerful in the dark winter months... far from hiding away from the cold (or hiding heads in the sand for that matter), hotbeds of climate action are springing up around the country. On the Rising Tide front, six new groups have formed in the last six months, with more people writing in all the time. So if you don’t see your local area listed below or to the left and you want to get involved in bringing about the radical change we all know is needed, get in touch and let's make it happen!

Bob Jones from LRT said, "We're here to demand that the Tate cut its ties with BP; an art gallery is no place for an environmental hazard such as an oil company".

"BP are here to greenwash their image and distract from the ecological devastation they're causing around the world". The protesters handed out lots of leaflets and urged patrons to demand the end of oil company sponsorship of art galleries. (CLICK 'read more' TO SEE VIDEO)

Greenwash Guerrillas tackle major greenwash leakage at Shell HQ

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 11:05

On 3rd January 2008, at about lunch time, the LRT Greenwash Guerrillas discovered a major source of greenwash at Shell HQ in Waterloo, London. The Guerrillas entered the lobby for an inspection but were so repelled by the Greenwash that they had to leave (the security assisting their escape).

The police helpfully showed up to show the Guerrillas where the public pavement started and the infected area began and helped out by making the scene look more official and scary. The public were very receptive to warnings of contamination and seemed quite concerned. A lot of flyers were given out and people seemed interested to know what was going on, with a few people running away after heeding warnings of contamination.

2007 Action Round-Up

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 01/03/2008 - 18:16

Norwich Rising Tide has only been up and running for just over a year, but it’s been a busy one! We began by taking action against the planned Northern Distributor Road with an ongoing spoof 'Campaign for Roads And Progress’ (CRAP). Next, to mark the International Day of Action Against Climate Change and the G8 we shut down a city centre Jet Petrol Station, choosing the lesser-known Jet/Conoco-Phillips to highlight the fact that there is no such thing as a good oil company.
