Welcome to London Rising Tide

London Rising Tide (LRT) takes creative action on the root causes of climate chaos, and promotes socially just, ecological alternatives to the fossil fuel madness that we're living through. It's part of the wider Rising Tide UK and international networks, and seeks to be part of a growing European and worldwide movement of groups working to dismantle the oil industry and live the future we want to see right now. Find out more about what we stand for.

Contact us to find out when we meet at the London Action Resource Centre (LARC), which is at 62 Fieldgate Street, London E1, Whitechapel tube, on the corner of Fieldgate Street and Parfett Street. We elcome new people, there's plenty to do, including helping run the office, making banners, doing talks & stalls, helping with actions, designing websites & leaflets etc. Some people in the group stick with just one of these tasks, while others work on several. We'd love to hear from you, whether you've only got half an hour a fortnight to spare, or entire days to put in.

Let us know if you want to know anything else, or maybe just see you at a meeting or event. It might be best to email or ring (07708 794665) before coming on a future Thursday, to make sure it's happening.

We hope this site inspires you to get active to combat oil, war and climate breakdown, (not to mention car culture, dams, aviation, nukes, industrial forest plantations etc.), whether that be with us, with your own group or by yourself. Since there's no such thing as an ethical or sustainable oil company, they and the many companies and institutions in their orbit are all worthy of our creative attention. Let us know how you get on, what you think of this site, if you'd like to get involved or if you have any other query. Good luck and stay hopeful!

Activists die in the National Portrait Gallery over association with BP(23-02-08)Hello.

Early this afternoon a group of people from Rising Tide went to the National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square....and died. 7 corpses lay in the main corridor to the Portrait Award Exhibition. Maybe the died when the realised that BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery was not currently on. Nonetheless, BPs association with a national institution such as the Portrait Gallery is another example of greenwash.

Rising Tide come out to support the Hands Off Iraqi Oil demo (23-02-08)

Hi,
This afternoon, after a successful action at the National Portrait Gallery, London Rising Tide met up with the Hands Off Iraqi Oil demo in Central London. The Pirates made there way on a treasure hunt, stopping off at some of the biggest Pirates and plunderers of all - BP and Shell.

The theme worked well, with some people dressed as oil, and everybody was armed with a patch, parrot or saber. Very few landlubbers showed up. Good times were had, along with much plundering and swaggering.

'Die-in' at the BP-sponsored Tate BritainActivists from London Rising Tide staged a 'die-in' in the BP sponsored Tate Britain on 4 January. Bob Jones from LRT said, "We're here to demand that the Tate cut its ties with BP; an art gallery is no place for an environmental hazard such as an oil company".

"BP are here to greenwash their image and distract from the ecological devastation they're causing around the world". The protesters handed out lots of leaflets and urged patrons to demand the end of oil company sponsorship of art galleries. (CLICK 'read more' TO SEE VIDEO)

Greenwash Guerrillas tackle major greenwash leakage at Shell HQ (03-01-08)

On Thursday 03 Jan 2008, at about lunch time, the LRT Greenwash Guerrillas discovered a major source of greenwash at Shell HQ in Waterloo, London. The Guerrillas entered the lobby for an inspection but were so repelled by the Greenwash that they had to leave (the security assisting their escape).
