CAMP FOR CLIMATE ACTION 14TH-21ST AUGUST 2007 : LONDON NEIGHBOURHOOD

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 06/22/2007 - 14:22

Last year 800+ people descended on a field near Drax power station and built a
sustainable camp without the help of John Inman (although he would have been there
if able)! This was a base for 2 weeks of direct action, workshops and skillsharing
on climate change.

The camp was organised on a completely non-hierarchical basis with a series of
geographical "neighbourhoods" each providing their own kitchen, structures and
decision making bodies.

The good news is there will be a second Climate Camp between the 14th and 21st of
August this year at a location yet to be announced, but keep checking
www.climatecamp.org.uk for updates. You can also find details there of our monthly
National Gatherings.

To help make this year's camp happen we are looking for more people to get involved
in the process of organising the London Neighbourhood and would encourage you to
network this information among your friends. Lots of people regretted not coming to
last year's camp especially having seen the extensive positive media coverage
generated while Drax was not generating, together with a deluge (whoops, almost
avoided that climate metaphor) of reports from the camp's Indymedia unit.

A vibrant new network of groups, the Network for Climate Action, has sprung out of
the camp and many groups have already signed up to commit to take action on climate
change.

What we need now are people with passion to get involved in something new and create
this year's London Neighbourhood. So, if this is you or your mates you can join us
by sending a blank to sign up to the e-mail list at :-
climatecamp-london-subscribe@lists.riseup.net
OR send an enquiry to london@climatecamp.org
OR give us a ring on 07708 794665
OR just turn up at our meeting every Tuesday at 7pm at :
SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) in Room B104,
Thornhaugh Street, the North-East corner of
Russell Square,
London WC1H 0XG.
a short walk from Russell Square/Tottenham Court Road/Goodge Street Tube Stations
(Piccadilly, Central and Northern Lines).

So come on, you know you really want to, don't dither do it now, because this Energy
Descent is going to need a hell of alot of energy dissent.

READ ON IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE AIMS OF THE CLIMATE CAMP ARE :-
*to explore grassroots solutions to climate change through workshops, skillsharing,
education, debate and entertainment.
*to take direct action against the root causes by acting collectively and having
fun, this being the only way to stop those vested interests that watch the planet
burn while counting the money they make from the fire.
*to demonstrate and live the alternatives by bringing diversity together to live
in an ecologically sustainable way, aiming to be as carbon neutral as possible.
*and to be a space for celebration of children & families and strangers &
friends. Instead of surrounding ourselves in a cocoon of consumable objects and
meaningless stuff - show that the opposite is possible and less can be so much
more.

Thanks for reading , now get out there!
