Art Not Oil sheds light and shadow on the oil industry...
Climate chaos is set to have a catastrophic effect on all of us, while hitting the poorest hardest. Oil is a curse that also fuels war, poverty and environmental destruction. Yet the companies most responsible are profiting handsomely, and they are still welcome it seems in many of our most prestigious public galleries and museums. Why?
Art Not Oil is an exhibition and a campaign, committed to showing powerful political/ecological art, to seeing an end to oil sponsorship of the arts, and to helping build movements for climate justice both here and throughout the world. As well as work that looks at the negative impacts of fossil fuels, we welcome work that looks at positive alternatives and solutions. Keep your art flowing in - turn your visions, nightmares, anger and hope into creative resistance!
Look out also for interactions with the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery.
After the Foundry, it’s on to the Big Green Gathering, Norwich, Edinburgh, Aberdeen (in December), Bristol (in March 2007, both tracking the BP Portrait Award) & beyond...
Shell is the new sponsor of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award. There's a campaign brewing - send us your photos, artworks and ideas for a roving October exhibition & infotour.

for the record...
2.) Spoil BP's launch party - 5pm Fri May 26
called by Baku Ceyhan Campaign & London Rising Tide
BP’s oil pipeline through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey is due to come
onstream
this May 27. Construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project has already
severely disrupted the environment and the lives of local people for the
last 3
years. Now, affected communities face the constant threat of leaks and
intimidation from security forces. Meanwhile, BTC will accelerate climate
chaos, pumping 1 million barrels of crude oil EVERY day for the next forty
years.
The BTC pipeline props up authoritarianism in Azerbaijan, has rendered numerous Georgian homes uninhabitable and polluted water supplies, while leading to imprisonment and torture of critics by the Turkish state.
Local communities fear that when the oil starts flowing, we’ll forget about them. Prove them wrong!
WHEN: Friday 26 May 2006, 5-6pm – HOURS before the pipeline comes onstream!
WHERE: BP HQ, 1 St James Square, London, SW1Y 4PD (Piccadilly Tube)
WHO: Called by the Baku Ceyhan Campaign and London Rising Tide

3.) Lastly, and very excitingly, this call to action also marks the creation of Rising Tide North America:
