**Publish date modified due to system failure**

We seem to have been preparing for it forever, but the G8 is finally upon us. My London life is sorted enough to leave behind for 10 days - I hope - and now it's time to pull together whatever courage and creativity I have. After all, this psychotic system needs to be dismantled and the seeds of new ones need to be nurtured, and fast. That's what I try to tell myself when the doubts and fears drop by for a chat every now and then.

Rossport Solidarity Rolling Shell Blockade
On 24th January London Rising Tide once again helped their friends at Rhythms of Resistance Samba Band and others keep Shell aware that the campaign to prevent the
Damaging high pressure gas pipeline and refinery near Rossport in County Mayo, Ireland is still rolling.

…and rolling is what it was, with even a bit of rocking. We tried the new tactic with measured success of short spells at a series of North London Shell garages blockading the entrance and exits with band, banners and bandanas (there was also mention of bananas when it came to irate drivers).

11am We arrived at the Arts Council for the Press Conference to unveil the Platform organised Living Memorial to Ken Saro-Wiwa and his 8 mates hung by the Nigerian government at the complicity of Shell – who have still not been brought to justice for their role in this state murder. The full sized ‘battlebus’ by Sokari Douglas Camp is emblazoned with ‘Genocide against the Ogoni people of the Niger Delta’.

Save the trees!

The event at the BoysHall will be a night in support of and to raise money for the coalition of local people and climate action groups, in particular for the action against building gas pipes through the Black Mountains in Wales. Please see Indymedia for more details.

July 15th was an 'International Day of Direct Action for Climate Justice, against Climate Change and the G8' called in part by Rising Tide North America. London Rising Tide (LRT) decided to take action the day before - a weekday, as well as being a more general day of action against the G8 and in solidarity with those on the streets of St. Petersburg and across Russia.

Climate change will transform life on Earth without action now. We are currently on course for a 3C degree rise in temperature, which is likely to mean the deaths of 400 million of the world's poorest people, and a social crisis that will engulf us all. And still the insane machine rumbles on: political clichés about sustainable growth, full steam ahead for nuclear power, the new Airbus, civil war in Iraq, the gridlocked motorways rumbling towards oil depletion…
