Fossil and Financial Fools Day goes global

Today saw not only mass protests in London ahead of the G20 summit, but local demonstrations in cities around the UK and across the globe. Under the banner of Fossil Fools Day, activists held protests at banks, energy companies and power stations across the UK, the USA and South Africa to highlight the twin economic and climate crises.

Greenwash Guerillas EDF Action

London Rising Tide's Greenwash Guerillas Brigade, Detection Platoon #1, moved into action on Monday morning at 08:00 hours – targeting energy corporation Électricité de France (EDF) at the central London headquarters of their UK subsidiary EDF Energy.

EDF has recently bought out British Energy and have anounced that they plan to build 4 new nuclear power stations in the UK in the coming years.

Cleaners blockade Eon's offices in London

CLEANING COMPANY TARGET E.ON ON NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

At 07.45 this morning E.ON offices on Pall Mall were targeted by the new
upstart Coal Cleaning Company as part of a nationally co-ordinated Day of Climate Action against False Capitalist Solutions.

The Coal Cleaning Company launched their enterprise with E.ON as their
first customer. According to the chatty cleaners, “There’s no mess too
big! We make coal Fossil Fuel Fresh ™”.

In the run up to the April 1st Fossil Fools Day of Action, on Saturday 29th of March, Housmans Bookshop at Kings Cross will be screening 2 short docs that highlight the struggle of communities at the frontline of the fossil fuel empire.

'Die-in' at the BP-sponsored Tate BritainActivists from London Rising Tide staged a 'die-in' in the BP sponsored Tate Britain on 4 January. Bob Jones from LRT said, "We're here to demand that the Tate cut its ties with BP; an art gallery is no place for an environmental hazard such as an oil company".

"BP are here to greenwash their image and distract from the ecological devastation they're causing around the world". The protesters handed out lots of leaflets and urged patrons to demand the end of oil company sponsorship of art galleries. (CLICK 'read more' TO SEE VIDEO)
