Trespass at Hinkley Point

 More than 200 actvitists squatted a field next to Hinkley Point nuclear power station for three days of protests. On Monday 8th October, 50 people stormed the site earmarked for two new mega nuclear reactors. The protest aimed to highlight the huge environmental and financial costs of the government's bid to build 8 new nuclear power stations in the UK. London Rising Tide will be joining the Climate Bloc at the TUC March on Saturday 20 October. This is the statement we will be marching under...

We are people from many different environmental campaigns. We are joining the TUC march on 20 October to be part of a huge popular challenge to austerity and the misery and hopelessness it is creating. We will march together on the 20th to raise the crucial question of tackling climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of a future that works. Dealing with these issues together is possible, necessary and desirable. The climate is changing dramatically, and we are already seeing huge impacts on food prices and energy costs.

No New Nuclear - International call out

Join us in an act of mass civil disobedience as we trespass on the proposed site of Hinkley C nuclear power station in Somerset.

EDF Energy is already trashing fragile Somerset countryside in preparation for the Hinkley C nuclear power station – even though it hasn’t got planning permission to start building.

This mass action is for anyone who feels able to publicly trespass - or bear witness to the mass trespass by joining us around the perimeter fence. We need people who are prepared to be arrested.

On the 2nd November 2011 the Cuadrilla Resources test drilling site at Banks in Lancashire was occupied by five protesters from Frack Off in an attempt to stop the spread of this destructive method of energy extraction to the British Isles. Subsequently, three of the protesters were charged with aggravated trespass.

Public day of action against the Rothamsted genetically modified wheat trial.

We need local, community-based solutions to the climate crisis. Despite being much trumpeted for some years now as an answer to climate change, no GM drought tolerant or ‘climate ready’ crops have made it to the table anywhere in the world. Nor do we think, even if ever possible, these would be a solution.

Anti-Fracking Protest

Frack off bannera small group of protestors gathered outside the marriott hotel in swiss cottage this evening where the 'unconventional shale gas conference' is taking place today and tomorrow. the protest was called by 'frack off (london)' and 'london rising tide' and had an irish theme complete with leprechaun costume in recognition of st patrick's day, and in solidarity with activists facing the arrival of the process in ireland. Activists occupy farm building at Hinkley C nuclear site

Activists are occupying a farmhouse close to Hinkley Point nuclear power station, to stop EDF Energy trashing land for a planned new nuclear power station; and are calling for more people to join them. Anti-nuclear campaigners have been joined by members of Seize the Day as the first residents of Edf-Off Cottage which is on the 400-acre site earmarked for two new mega-reactors. Following an occupation of trees last week, the campaign against Hinkley C power station being built on fragile coastal land has now moved to a nearby farmhouse.

This film gives an account of the first few days of the occupation. The activists took occupancy in the early hours of Sunday the 12th of February and are settling in to their new home and community.
