Rising Tide UK (1) has joined the growing list of partners to Alive Earth (2), a grassroots musical alternative to the Live Earth project.
Sam Chase from Rising Tide said: ‘The fatal flaw at the heart of Live Earth is the same as that at the heart of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’: it acknowledges the gravity of the crisis, but then goes into overdrive to convince us that electric cars, the convenient lie that is carbon offsetting and privatised technology can get us through it. Once again, an amazing opportunity to stimulate real social and climatic change has been squandered.’
‘While there is a huge amount of goodwill surrounding Live Earth, it remains an enterprise that sees no problem with the current economic growth-obsessed system. It purveys on the one hand sensible advice about lessening our personal impact on the climate, but on the other hand its most prominent UK sponsor is Chevrolet, manufacturer of the massive ‘Suburban’ 4x4 (3).’
‘Let’s hope at least one of the performers breaks ranks and rocks the comfortable corporate Live Earth boat by telling it like it actually is…But in the meantime, a million miles maybe from Wembley Stadium, there is a new, irrepressible mass movement for climate justice emerging that is committed to creative civil disobedience. We think that’s the one to climb aboard…’
‘We are very happy to able to be an Alive Earth partner, and we will also be taking our creative resistance to this year’s Camp for Climate Action (4) near Heathrow airport, from August 14-21, where we’ll be taking part in some low impact living and some high impact direct action.’

‘There is a whole world of creativity that will not be heard at these mega-concerts. All around the world there are wonderful bands, songwriters and performers who want to share their anger, fear
and hopes about climate change. This is their venue. On 7-7-07 we will select the performances that receive the most votes and hits and put them together on this site. It won’t be live but it will be
ALIVE! And, because we are doing this on the web, there will be no executive jets, no cars, no floodlighting, no air conditioning, no paper, no plastic, no cans.’
