The oil economy generates conflict and
destruction at every stage of its lethal cycle. It seizes lands,
pollutes rivers, and kills or tortures those who stand in its way.
It will fight any war and undermine international law to secure
new supplies. It fuels the climate change which threatens all our
futures with floods, droughts, storms and heatwaves.
Enough!
It's time to break our cycle of oil addiction, confront the companies
responsible, and challenge the public funding (our taxes) which
makes it possible. It's time to work together for a just future
without fossil fuels.
The day will feature speakers, video and workshops on:
the impacts of oil and climate change;
exposing the oil-driven agenda in the recent invasion of Iraq;
the human cost of oil wars;
worldwide resistance to fossil fuel expansion;
action we can take to dismantle the oil economy
The agenda cam be found here.
In the past Rising Tide gatherings have attracted a wide range of
people involved in all areas of climate change campaigning. At this
years day event we are hoping to reach out to a broader section
of people who have been involved in the anti-war movement, international
solidarity campaigns and human rights groups.
