we have something to say and even then no more than one update per
week (and maybe even less often).
YOUR DETAILS WILL NEVER BE GIVEN TO ANYONE.

HOTTEST OCTOBER ON RECORD
Although it's hardly surprising, it is still extremely worrying to
report that it has just been confirmed that this has been the warmest
October in the UK since records began in 1659. There have been no
cold snaps or frost, which is extremely rare. The average temperature
for October in the UK is 10.4C (50.7F) whilst this year the temperatures
averaged 14.1C (57.4F). This is warmer than the previous record of
13C (55.4F) in 1969.
TIME FOR ACTION....!

URGENT- LONDON OIL PIPELINE PROTEST TOMORROW
There is a protest tomorrow November 1st (apologies for the late posting)
from 5 to 7pm outside the Westdeutsches Landesbank, No.25, Basing
Hall St. London. The WestLB is funding the ghastly OCP oil pipeline
in Ecuador which it will devastate eleven protected areas and invade
indigenous territory. The pipeline is strongly opposed by local environmental
and indigenous rights groups. In August nine protesters were beaten
up by security guards whilst occupying the offices of the OCP.

REMEMBER, REMEMBER, THE SIXTH OF NOVEMBER
As mentioned in the last news sheet, there is an international climate
day of action on Tuesday the 6th November (sorry for any confusion
over dates in the last news sheet). The day will coincide with the
ministerial session of the 7th Conference of Parties (COP7) climate
negotiations in Marrakech.
Our friends in Rising Tide Netherlands write:
On our website (www.risingtide.nl <http://www.risingtide.nl>
) there are materials for doing actions against carbon trading and
privatisation of the atmosphere. They include flyers and zipped jpeg
files for labels. The idea of the labels is that you glue them to
empty jars, put them on a table in a busy place and try to 'sell'
them to passersby. This will hopefully get the complicated message
of carbon trading across to people. Or you could always be more sneaky
and put the jars in supermarkets among other foods for the more subtle
approach!
If you do an action on Nov 6th, please send your news to the climate.indymedia.org
<http://www.climate.indymedia.org> website.

NEW PUBLICATIONS
Corner House Briefing: Democracy or Carbocracy
This report by Larry Lohmann will, we believe, become a key text for
the movement against climate change. It is a thorough, smart, very
well argued and devastatingly vitriolic attack on the Kyoto process,
carbon trading, and the bogus science of sequestration. If you never
read anything else on Kyoto, you should read this.

Ecologist Climate Change Special Issue
The latest issue of The Ecologist includes a large Climate Change
special supplement which contains a range of informative articles
including science, solutions, ending the oil industry and ecological
debt. Some of these articles already appeared as a 16 page supplement
in The Observer last Sunday, 27th October. If you actually bought
The Observer you may well have binned it by accident- the supplement
received no mention on the front page and was hidden within the "Cash"
section! What does this say about editorial priorities?
