Mark
Thomas - Who will be starting off the gathering on the Friday
evening. |
| |
|
Kickstarting
the gathering on Friday evening is the very wonderful Mark Thomas,
linking climate change, oil, pipelines, corruption, water privatisation
and very dodgy politics together in his own unique, punchy style.
A unique start to the gathering - so get there early! (6:15)
Saturday will
be a chance to look at the spectrum of climate issues. After an
overview of the state of the climate, freak weather, impacts and
updates of the political situation post Joburg, well
be looking at issues ranging from transport and roads in the UK
to the Baku pipeline, carbon trading, company greenwash, practical
renewable energy, and the not insignificant feelings of oh
my god its all too big to deal with this issue. This will
be followed by an 'Open Forum' of different climate change campaigns
- please bring materials to show and inspire. Phew.
Saturday evening
will be a socialising and unwinding - getting inspired seeing videos
of climate activism, shocked by slides of climate impacts, and awed
by the range of talent in our network with an open mike
night.
Sundays
focus will be movement building and action planning - there are
already some kicking climate actions and campaigns to get involved
with, more ideas will be generated over the weekend, and this will
be time to get things in motion.
This is
the time, our tipping point, to act on climate, to claim the political
and social space and to network ideas and campaigns.. and the Rising
Tide gathering is the place to do it.
The gathering
is the key place to get involved and inspired into action on climate
change and climate justice.
The RT gathering
last year brought together a wide range of campaigners and activists
on climate change to share info, get informed and plan local campaigns.
From this we have built up the network to have active groups up
and down the country.
Right now its
vital to challenge the pseudo solutions which are being promoted
by corporations and businesses; get inspired by campaigns which
have involved people in local solutions to climate change; and plan
the campaigns and actions that will turn climate change into the
hottest social and political issue.
If you're involved
in climate change campaigning, or want to be, then come to the Rising
Tide Gathering on 4-6th October.
