A
SHORT SELECTION OF THE BEST PLACES TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT
CLIMATE CHANGE
The No-nonsense Guide to Climate
Change by Dinyar Godrej- an excellent short introduction.
The best all round summary of the issues, science, and government
negotiations. From New Internationalist Publications. Buy
it on the web www.newint.org
Tel 01865 728 181
A shorter and more digestible overview
of the issues is the Funny Weather comic book available through
Rising Tide Link
Science information
Global warming: the complete
briefing. John Houghton. Cambridge University Press. Pounds
16.95. The best explanation of the science by the former co-chair
of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Technical,
but readily understood by any layperson with a good general
understanding of science.
The best website for general scientific
information is the Climate Research Unit of the Univerisity
of East Anglia, www.cru.uea.ac.uk
Personal
Impacts
In our (not-so-humble) opinion,
the best place to start is the two page Rising Tide factsheet
on how we all contribute to climate change, breaking down
emissions from heating, transport and consumption. Link.
The best site for calculating your
own greenhouse gas emissions www.carboncalculator.org
The best place to calculate the impact of jet flights www.chooseclimate.org/flying/mapcalc.htm
Solutions
Stormy Weather: 101 Solutions
to Global Climate Change by Guy Dauncey and Patrick Mazza,
New Society Publishers. A wide array of ideas for solutions:
organised as ideas for individuals, organisations, towns,
businesses, companies and governments. Many web links for
finding more information. Very accessible and well designed.
Some of the ideas are great, some dodgy, some downright mad,
and it is aimed primarily at an American and Canadian market
but no question this is the best all round guide to solutions.
