Camp for Climate Action 2008 Location Announced

August 3-11 at Kingsnorth Power Station

Low-impact living // education // high-impact direct action

Day of Mass Action at Kingsnorth: Saturday August 9th, 2008
Day of Action against Agrofuels : Wednesday August 6th, 2008

This summer the Camp for Climate Action will pitch its tents outside Kingsnorth coal-fired power station in Kent for a week of education, sustainable living and direct action. Everyone is invited to the camp, which is now part of an international movement, with eight climate camps on four continents planned for this summer. Together, we will show that the blind pursuit of economic growth at any cost is simply insane, and is to blame for the CO² emissions and ecosystem destruction that are causing catastrophic climate change.

PRESS RELEASE, January 26th 2008

Shell’s two year tenure as sponsor of the Natural History Museum’s ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ exhibition has come to an end. New wave of climate action with six new Rising Tide groups

View Larger Map Here’s some reasons to be cheerful in the dark winter months... far from hiding away from the cold (or hiding heads in the sand for that matter), hotbeds of climate action are springing up around the country. On the Rising Tide front, six new groups have formed in the last six months, with more people writing in all the time. So if you don’t see your local area listed below or to the left and you want to get involved in bringing about the radical change we all know is needed, get in touch and let's make it happen!

Die-in

Activists from London Rising Tide staged a 'die-in' in the BP sponsored Tate Britain on 4 January. Bob Jones from LRT said, "We're here to demand that the Tate cut its ties with BP; an art gallery is no place for an environmental hazard such as an oil company".

"BP are here to greenwash their image and distract from the ecological devastation they're causing around the world". The protesters handed out lots of leaflets and urged patrons to demand the end of oil company sponsorship of art galleries. (CLICK 'read more' TO SEE VIDEO)

Newquay Airport Rooftop Occupation

Action:Confronting the fossil fuel economy

Roof occupied
The recently formed Kernow and Plymouth Rising Tide groups banded together to occupy Newquay Airport last Saturday. The protest put a spotlight on the airport's focus on climate-wrecking short-haul flights, and drew attention to a recent report on the airport which shows that the economic case for expansion is unsound. Subversive Singing Santas Spread Seasonal Sanity in London and Norwich

Action:Other actions

Oxford St

Today, on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, activists in both London and Norwich dressed up as Santas Against Excessive Consumption and hit the high streets to sing a different tune to the usual buy, buy, buy madness of the holiday season.

In Norwich, bearing a festive banner reading Lapland is Melting and singing subverted Christmas carols (Welcome to Consumer Wonderland, Oh Little Town of Chapelfield, etc.), the Santas set up outside the temple to consumption that is Chapelfield Mall.
